My thoughts on USD's Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship
I was extremely lucky to get a chance to obtain my cardiology fellowship at the University of South Dakota. The program offers a variety of clinical experiences in all subspecialties of cardiology with a great degree of autonomy. One gets the opportunity to work with an exceptionally talented group of physicians with the advantage of the large patient population that Sanford Cardiovascular Institute serves. This contributes to the tremendous breadth, both in variety and complexity, of cardiac patients and procedures that you can get a chance to learn from. During my training the program only exceeded expectations. I went on to pursue interventional cardiology fellowship at University of Texas – San Antonio and felt that my experience at USD gave me an incredible advantage with hands on skills and exposure to the newest techniques and technology. Not only is it a very strong program clinically, USD maintains a robust research program and actively involves and encourages fellows to conduct and present research projects throughout the year. Most importantly, the program leadership takes exceptional care to ensure wellbeing of their fellows. Sioux Falls, is a wonderful city to live in – Low cost of living and a great number of recreational activities!
