Geriatrics

Training geriatricians to provide exemplary senior care. The USD Geriatrics Fellowship is an innovator in part-time curriculum for practicing physicians. Many physicians see the need for more geriatric experience but cannot leave practice. The part-time track allows physicians to maintain their practice while receiving additional training.

Mission

To provide fellows with training to become competent, proficient and professional geriatric physicians in the inpatient, nursing home and outpatient settings.

Aims

  • Provide fellows with a solid foundation in the physiology of aging and how that affects the person biologically, socially, and culturally.
  • Provide fellows with guidance on outpatient, inpatient, nursing home and hospice care of elders.
  • Model “Life Long Learning and Life Long Quality Improvement” not only in medicine but in the classroom and at home.

Program Curriculum

The USD Geriatrics Fellowship offers a diverse curriculum over the broad spectrum of geriatrics care and settings. Our Geriatrics Fellowship program has been ACGME Accredited since 2010 and has graduated 11 fellows from both our full-time and part-time tracks.
