Welcome to the Surgical Pathology Fellowship at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.  This one-year fellowship program is designed to be a bridge between residency and practicing pathologists.  We will integrate the principle of graduated responsibility under the guidance of faculty members who practice surgical pathology as well as have subspecialty expertise.  The aim is to have graduates “sign out ready” with the ability to hit the ground running when they start their respective jobs. The fellow also receive training in administrative duties to prepare them for the role of a laboratory director.

I am a practicing pathologist at Sanford Medical Center, with subspecialty training in core anatomic pathology which includes cytopathology and surgical pathology, working on average 5 days a week.  We have a volume of approximately 50, 000 surgical cases annually which includes a plethora of cases, including neoplastic, non-neoplastic, complex cases, and “bread and butter” cases.  Medical students and pathology residents are integrated into the clinic and the fellow will have an opportunity to work with them in a supervisory role.

Thank you for your interest in our program.  We look forward to receiving your application.
