Internal Medicine

We train residents to be competent internists who are prepared for outpatient primary care practice, hospitalist medicine practice, or fellowship. Our residents are trained to be excellent medical educators and are provided opportunities to achieve excellence in scholarship. This program fosters a learning environment that promotes personal and professional wellness.

Program Curriculum

The program consists of 36 months of training in internal medicine leading to ABIM board eligibility. Ambulatory care accounts for approximately 33% of the overall training. Rotations are scheduled in a 4+2 model, in which residents alternate between four-week inpatient blocks and two-week ambulatory blocks.

Our program is an integrated program with rotations at Sanford USD Medical Center and Avera Health as well as a variety of private practices in the Sioux Falls, SD area.
